Man United Make Michael Carrick Sack Decision After Disappointing Leeds United Draw
Story By Staff Reporter
Manchester United are not considering dismissing Michael Carrick in the immediate future, even though Sunday’s 1-1 draw with Leeds United prolonged the club’s winless run.
The heat on Carrick had grown after the Champions League loss to Atletico Madrid, yet the display at Elland Road seems to have bolstered his standing instead of hastening his departure.
United sit 13th in the Premier League, having won just one of their first seven games, so Carrick’s long-term position is far from guaranteed. For the moment, however, INEOS look willing to back him a little longer.
Carrick secure despite “eerie parallels” with Amorim
Manchester Evening News chief United correspondent Tyrone Marshall does not expect Carrick to suffer the same outcome as Ruben Amorim.
Amorim lost his job in January after United also played out a 1-1 draw at Elland Road, making the comparison hard to ignore after Sunday’s game.
Even so, Marshall insisted Carrick will not follow the same path, writing that there is no chance of history repeating itself despite the eerie similarities.
He also argued that the performance demonstrated the squad’s belief in their head coach.
Such backing from the dressing room could prove vital for Carrick, especially after a turbulent week in which Lisandro Martinez publicly criticised the club’s hierarchy.
