Portugal bans Ronaldo for 30 days and fines him $285 over spat with Jesus

The Portuguese Football Association has suspended Cristiano Ronaldo for 30 days. The 41-year-old left the national camp after a rift with coach Jorge Jesus over his role.
The federation’s disciplinary council announced the decision on Monday. It upheld the charge in full and fined the forward 255 euros ($285).
Ronaldo left Portugal’s base in Copenhagen before their Nations League match against Denmark earlier this month. He accused Jesus of twice breaking his word about his role. This followed the Norway match, where he was an unused substitute.
Jesus denied making any agreement with Ronaldo. He left the door open for a return after Portugal’s 2-1 win.
The council’s non-professional section found that Ronaldo intentionally broke Article 160(1) of the federation’s disciplinary rules. It opened proceedings on October 9 over facts reported two days earlier.
The statement did not say which matches or activities the suspension covers. It also did not say whether time already served under a provisional suspension counts towards the 30 days.
Ronaldo later apologised. He said sorry for failing to acknowledge supporters after the Norway match and for leaving his teammates. He said he remained available for selection once he serves any punishment.
Federation president Pedro Proenca said everyone wants Ronaldo back once the matter is resolved.
