Traffic in central Harare was brought to a total standstill on Wednesday afternoon as thousands of mourners descended on the corner of Kwame Nkrumah Avenue and Harare Street. The massive gathering assembled outside Doves Funeral Parlour.

to witness the body collection and funeral procession for prominent Zimbabwean businessman Sir Wicknell Chivhayo and his wife, Lucy Muteke.

The intersection and surrounding blocks were completely gridlocked by a dense crowd of well-wishers, family members, prominent figures, and spectators who packed the streets to pay their final respects.

High-Profile Sendoff Causes Gridlock

Vehicular movement along Harare Street and surrounding arteries ground to a halt as the hearse and accompanying funeral escort prepared to transport the remains. The sheer volume of people gathering around the premises forced local authorities and security details to manage growing traffic backups stretching into adjacent CBD blocks.

Mourners gathered outside the parlour as the procession prepared to leave for funeral services and burial proceedings scheduled in the capital.
