ZIMBABWEAN international footballer Tawanda Chirewa made history on Friday night after scoring his first senior goal for Wolverhampton Wanderers as Wolves came from behind to beat Burnley 2-1 in a Championship clash at Turf Moor.

Chirewa came off the bench in the 72nd minute and needed a few minutes to score Wolves’ winning goal.

Burnley had taken the lead through veteran striker Jamie Vardy in the 20th minute, before Wolves responded before the break when Fer Lopez levelled the contest in the 39th minute.

For Chirewa, the goal represents a significant milestone in his club career after rejoining the club from loan this season.

The 23-year-old had previously made senior appearances for Wolves without finding the net, while his earlier loan spells at Derby County and Huddersfield Town also ended without a league goal.

The victory also extended Burnley’s miserable home run, with the Clarets now having gone 21 consecutive league matches at Turf Moor without victory.
