Leaked Audio Sparks Match-Fixing Claims Before CAPS-Scott Clash

Story By Staff Reporter

A leaked audio clip has sparked controversy ahead of tomorrow’s Castle Lager Premier Soccer League clash between CAPS United and Scottland at Rufaro Stadium. However, nobody has verified the recording.

The audio allegedly captures Warriors goalkeeper Washington Arubi refusing a bribe. According to the clip, a woman named Bridget makes the approach, and she claims Scottland officials sent her.

But is the audio authentic? Or is this just mind games before the title-deciding match?

What the audio reportedly captures

The clip circulating on social media features a woman named Bridget, who claims Scottland (or “Scott”) officials sent her. Reportedly, she tries to influence the match. Moreover, she appears to approach a CAPS United player about goalkeeper Victor James.

• The audio clip: In the recording, the woman says words to the effect of “Ndatumwa na Scot, kuti titaure na keeper arikubata pa Caps, pakaipa” (I have been sent by Scot to talk to the goalkeeper playing for CAPS, it’s serious).
• Club reaction: Reports say the allegations prompted CAPS United owner Farai Jere to take precautions, so he ordered the team into camp yesterday. However, Jere told Zimpapers Sports Hub the early camp helps players focus and prepare as the club pushes for a top-four finish.
• Authenticity: The recording has sparked debate about football integrity on social media. Meanwhile, neither the PSL nor ZIFA has announced an investigation or verification.

Claims remain unverified

Social media posts link the clip to both Washington Arubi and Victor James. However, nobody has confirmed either claim. Likewise, no club, player or official has said who is speaking. It also remains unclear whether the recording is genuine, edited or staged.

Authorities have not charged anyone with wrongdoing. In addition, the woman’s claim to represent Scottland is only a claim. Indeed, nothing in the clip shows Scottland officials authorised an approach.

The stakes

Hardrock lead the table on 69 points, while Scottland sit second on 61 with two games in hand. Scottland now play under Peter Ndlovu after sacking Norman Mapeza, so they need a win to keep their title hopes alive.

CAPS United, on the other hand, lost the reverse fixture and want revenge. They are also chasing a top-four finish and say they will show no mercy.
